Val St. John
Val of "Val and Scott In The Morning"
Thanks for starting your day with "Val & Scott" in the morning!
It's been my pleasure waking up Southwest Florida for over 15 years and working with Scott, no day is ever the same!
How did you get your start in radio?
I started my days in radio in Venice, Florida in 1985 as an intern at a small radio station after being discovered spinning records in a night club. I worked for 3 and a half years cleaning the offices for $0 money just to be in the radio station.
When did you know radio was what you'd be doing?
When I would fall asleep with headphones on and did my homework while listening to the radio. Dad always said, "if you studied your homework as much as all the words to every song on the radio, you'd be a genius!"
Spending time with my family and traveling to places I've never been. My list of places I'd love to travel to someday include, Italy and Australia.
Tell us about your personal life, are you married?
Yes, to a wonderful, hard working man named Mike. I have 2 step-daughters, Jessie and Lauren whom I'm very proud of!
What do you collect?
Dust. I'm good at collecting dust. Actually, sports memorabilia. I've got an NFL helmet autographed from several Hall Of Famers, baseballs, bats and baseball cards.
Favorite sports team?
I like many:
Football-The Green Bay Packers (Fins-2nd choice)
Baseball-The Minnesota Twins
Hockey- The Florida Everblades (Swampy is my famous ex!)
Nascar- I'm just a fan of the race!
3 must haves in your fridge?
A bottle of wine, cheese and strawberry jelly to go with my extra crunchy peanut butter!
Proudest Radio moment?
Traveling to Las Vegas to receive the ACM trophy on behalf of every loyal Gator Country listener that has been a part of every charity, fundraiser, blood drive and events that help support others in our community. This award belongs to you!
What would you be doing if you weren't in radio?
Fishing in tournaments
What is your dream job?
"Head Coach in the NFL!"
To be at Gator Country 101.9 as long as I have, is truly a blessing that I don't take for granted. With the talented folks I've had the pleasure of working with over the years and the countless listeners, we've been rewarded with several honors: CMA nominated (Country Music Association), CRB nominated (Country Radio Broadcasters), winner of the NAB Crystal Radio Award (National Association of Broadcasters), voted "Best of SW Florida" (Personality and Morning Show) in the NewsPress Readers Choice Poll, and ACM winner for "Best Medium Market Personality".
Thanks for your continued support of the charities that are close to my heart: Breast Cancer Awareness, March of Dimes and helping feed hungry families in SW Florida.
